5 Tips For Using QR Codes To Label Your Moving Boxes

Articles

QR codes, short for quick response codes, are small patches that can be scanned by a smart phone and the use of a QR code scanning app. They are generally used for marketing purposes, but they can also be helpful for organizing your moving boxes. QR codes can be printed on stickers or plain paper and then affixed to each box. You will then be able to scan the QR code to find out information such as what is in the box or where the box belongs in your new house. A QR code will allow you to quickly and discretely add more detail to your box than simply writing with a marker. If you plan to use QR codes, first learn how to create them yourself and then follow these five tips for making them an effective moving tool.

Decide Whether You Want Static or Dynamic Codes

If you are shuttling your belongings to your new home and using the same boxes for several trips, you may want to use dynamic QR codes. These are codes that can be re-programmed with new information. This way you can update your list of what is inside your box every time you repack it without having to print and apply a new QR code.

However, if you are conducting your move all at once, then you may want to stick to static codes. Static codes can only be programmed once, but they are often free or low-cost compared to dynamic codes.

Color Code Your Codes

QR codes do not have to be printed in black. For extra organization, consider color coding your QR codes by room. For example, print all of your QR codes for bathroom boxes blue and all of your kitchen QR codes green. This can make it easy to sort your boxes at your destination without any extra labeling or having to scan the box for information each time.

Include Details

One of the main benefits of a QR code system is that you can write a detailed list of what is inside each box that is not visible to the casual viewer. This means that you can freely record where you have private items or items of value on your QR codes without worrying about what your movers will think of your contents or whether someone might try to steal a labeled box off of the moving truck. However, for QR codes to be effective, you need to be detailed in your description. If you are just going to write "bedroom stuff," you can easily do that directly on the box. Instead, be specific about which items are in the box.

Link to Websites When Necessary

QR codes can link to several different kinds of information. Besides basic text, they can link to a website. This can be useful if you want to link to a website that has information about how to assemble a specific electronic or piece of furniture. You can always add two or more QR codes to a box in order to have a list of contents and helpful websites.

Make Sure Everyone Unpacking Has a QR Code Reader Installed On Their Smartphone

QR codes will not be helpful if the people unpacking cannot read them. Before you move, make sure that everyone in your home has a QR code scanner installed on their smartphone so the QR codes can be read easily. If you have a child without a smartphone, they can also use a tablet to read QR codes.

QR codes can be a helpful, fun way to get your moving boxes organized. However, it is important to make sure that you use them effectively.  For more information about moving, contact a company like Palmieri Movers

Storing Your Family's Treasures

After my husband lost his job, we started having a hard time paying our bills. We realized that if we wanted to stay afloat, we were going to have to sell our home and move into a much smaller place. Unfortunately, we quickly discovered that our new place wasn't going to fit all of our things, which is where storage units came into play. We rented a large unit to house some of our things, and it made it much more simple. We even learned a few great storage tips to keep our items clean and beautiful during the storage experience. This blog is all about storing your family's treasures.
